The Creative Retreat is owned and run by us, Carla and Bryan Angus. Between us our creative careers have included fine art, theatre design, textiles, arts development, festival management, curating, working as exhibition guides and teaching at all levels, from under 5's to 70 plus. Bryan is originally from Aberdeen, with family roots along the North East Scottish coast. Carla hails from London with British and West Indian heritage, (with lots of Scots along the way). We've settled in this beautiful part of the world and the feeling of truly being at home has been completed by our family of two kids and three goldfish. And one day maybe a dog...

Bryan - "My favourite materials are oils and pastels. The pictures here show how I like to return to landscape and still-life on a regular basis - I have to admit that quietly sitting and making a small still life is one of life pleasures. I also get great pleasure from handing on the skills I have and helping people explore their own. Everyone can improve, in ways they possibly can't see at first. I work most days at challenging my own work methods. Right now I'm working on a series of paintings based on the unreliable nature of memory and the very unreliable nature of how families look after the old photographs. When complete I'll get a few up here."

Carla - "I've always loved mixing materials and techniques, and over the last couple of years have had a chance to incorporate textiles and stitch as well, which I'm really enjoying. I tend to create 3D objects or spaces that relate to our emotional lives, often with a humorous lilt. I firmly believe that creativity is present in everyone - sometimes it just needs squeezing out."
